    Gorilla Permit Fees:

    • Rwanda: As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the gorilla permit fee in Rwanda is $1,500 per person for international visitors. Please note that permit fees may be subject to change, so it’s advisable to check the latest information from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB)
    • Uganda: In Uganda, the gorilla permit fee is currently $700 per person for international visitors. Similarly, permit fees can change, so it’s best to verify the current rates from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

    What to Carry: During a gorilla trekking experience, it’s important to pack essential items such as:

    • Sturdy hiking boots
    • Long-sleeved shirts and trousers to protect against vegetation and insects
    • Rain jacket or poncho
    • Insect repellent
    • Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
    • Day packs for carrying water, snacks, and camera equipment
    • Drinking water (at least 1–2 liters)
    • Snacks or energy bars
    • Camera (without flash) and spare batteries
    • Binoculars (optional)

    The cancellation policies for gorilla permits can vary, depending on the specific terms and conditions set by the authorities in Rwanda and Uganda. Here is a general overview:

    • Rwanda:
      • The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) sets the cancellation policies for gorilla permits in Rwanda.
      • If you cancel your permit at least 90 days before the trekking date, you can receive a 75% refund of the permit fee.
      • If you cancel between 45 and 89 days before the trekking date, you can receive a 50% refund.
      • Cancellations made within 44 days of the trekking date usually result in no refund.
    • Uganda:
      • The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) determines the cancellation policies for gorilla permits in Uganda.
      • If you cancel your permit more than 90 days before the trekking date, you may be eligible for a partial refund, but the specific amount can vary.
      • Cancellations made within 90 days of the trekking date typically result in no refund or a very limited refund, as the permit is often considered non-refundable.

    Obtaining Gorilla Permits: To obtain gorilla permits, you have a few options:

    • Rwanda: In Rwanda, you can acquire gorilla permits through the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) or by booking through Rhino safari tours, which will assist you in securing the permits.
    • Uganda: In Uganda, you can obtain gorilla permits by contacting the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) directly or by going through Rhino safari tours, which can assist you with the permit acquisition process.

    It’s advisable to book gorilla permits well in advance, as they are in high demand, especially during peak seasons.
