1 Day Mhahinga Gorilla Trek in Uganda starts and ends in Rwanda. It’s over the border in Mgahinga National Park in Kisoro town, 7 km from the Cyanika border with Rwanda. The forest has one habituated family of Gorillas and the other group keeps on moving through the border to DR Congo and Rwanda.
One Day Mgahinga Gorilla Trek - Uganda Safaris
Like any other gorilla trekking safari, permits are pre-booked on this 1 day Mgahinga Gorilla trek, because the daily limit is 8 visitors to this particular group. The Safari begins from Kigali at 4:30 am from your hotel, reaching the border at 7 am. After the border crossing which takes like 20 minutes, drive straight to the park headquarters for a briefing which normally begins at 8 am.
Unlike other sections of Bwindi Forest National Park, in Mgahinga trekking usually takes not more than 6 hours. Much of the time is spent hiking uphill. After meeting the Gorillas, you will follow the rules as per the briefing.
You will return to the starting point to meet the driver guide to return to Kigali. En route lunch in either Kisoro town or Musanze depending on the time.
